Plateau Assembly pledges legislative support for better healthcare

Plateau House Assembly says that the legislative arm of the state is committed to making laws that will enhance the healthcare delivery system in the state.

The acting Chairman, House Committee on Health, Mr Nanbol Daniel (LP/Langtang North Central), gave the assurance on Wednesday during an oversight tour of healthcare facilities in some local government areas.

Daniel said that the assembly would continue to facilitate measures that would address the various challenges confronting the sector.

The lawmaker emphasised the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government to achieve the feat.

The chairman who addressed the health workers in the various facilities said that healthcare professionals were the backbone of the health sector and must uphold standards of service and professionalism.

He urged them to remain dedicated to their duties and to maintain a harmonious working environment.

Daniel reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of health workers and addressing systemic issues affecting the sector.

The lawmaker further commended the contributions of non-governmental organisations and individuals who have supported the sector through donations of equipment and renovation of health facilities.

He encouraged more stakeholders to join hands in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

In his remarks, Dr Sumi Garkuwa, Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Management Board, commended the government’s frantic efforts in revitalising the health sector.

Garkuwa noted that significant progress had been made in the sector.

He, however, said that there were still some challenges hindering optimal operations in the sector.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the health facilities visited during the oversight tour were the general hospitals in Shendam, Langtang North, Kanke, and Pankshin Local Government Areas. (NAN)
