Gombe Governor Releases N500m Counterpart Fund to Boost Child Nutrition Programme

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the release of N500 million as counterpart funding for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in partnership with UNICEF.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli.

The fund, released under the Child Nutrition Fund arrangement, is aimed at expanding treatment access for children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) across the state.

Gombe State has consistently been recognized for meeting its nutrition funding obligations, and this latest contribution reinforces the administration’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children, especially those under the age of five. Officials say the sustained investment has supported steady improvements in child survival and overall health indicators in the state.

RUTF is a lifesaving therapeutic paste used globally to treat cases of severe acute malnutrition, particularly in hard-to-reach communities with limited access to health facilities. The state government says continued support for RUTF procurement aligns with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s long-term strategy to reduce child mortality, promote early childhood development, and build a healthier generation.

Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his commitment to expanding nutrition and health interventions that directly benefit vulnerable families. According to him, “No child in Gombe should suffer or lose their life to a condition that is preventable and treatable.”
