ASUU FUK AWARD SCHOLARSHIP TO INDIGENT STUDENTS

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU FUK branch has presented letter of scholarship award to the beneficiaries of its indigent scholarship scheme.

Presenting the awards letters during a brief ceremony at the ASUU secretariat, the branch chairperson, Comrade Shehu El-Rasheed, said the scholarship award was to compliment the National Body of ASUU which also awarded scholarship to 2 students in FUK where each person was presented with the sum of two hundred thousand naira.

He said on its part, FUK branch identified four beneficiaries including a visually impaired student and pay half of their school fees where each of them went home with the sum of fifty thousand naira to support their academic pursuit.

According to the Branch Chairperson, the beneficiaries were identified after a rigorous selection process and were found to be serious with their studies as part of the requirement was the CGPA of 3.00 and above.

While shading light about the scheme, Comrade El-Rasheed said the indigent scholarship is a scheme instituted by the National Body of the union long ago by adopting the Late Gani Fawehenmi Scholarship procedure to identify the less privileged who find it very difficult to pay for their school fees.

He further advised the beneficiaries to make best utilization of the funds on their academic matters so as to justify the purpose.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Muhammad Nasir a 300 level student of Education Fondation, expressed gratitude to the union for coming to their aid, describing it as timely.

He said the scholarship is coming when he was about to embark on teaching practice that require some money to support him in buying some materials and other logistics, assuring of judicious utilization of the money.

He added that this is the first time he was receiving scholarship throughout his stay in the university and appeal to other university based unions to borrow a leap from ASUU to also consider introducing such scholarship scheme.

Abubakar further advised his fellow beneficiaries to spend the money wisely in accordance with its purpose meant for.

FUK Radio Correspondent reports that the beneficiaries of the national body are Jamilu Shuaibu Zakariyya from Political Science department and Aluse Jude Aondongu of entrepreneurship department.

While Husaini Ibrahim of Entrepreneurship department, Adamu Sani of education Foundations department, Adebayo Emmanuel of Economics and Development Studies and Abubakar Muhammad Nasir of education Foundations are the beneficiaries of the FUK branch.
