The Foundation for Youth Awakening and Empowerment (FOYAE), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the Small Grants Programme (SGP), has organized a sensitization program for community leaders in Kundulum, Akko local government Area of Gombe state.
The event, held on Tuesday at Hajiya Amina Hall in Gombe, aimed to build community resilience and address the growing issues of land degradation and water scarcity affecting the Kundulum area.
In her remark at the event, FOYAE founder Mrs. Linda D. Alabura emphasized that the organization’s mission is to empower youth and make them active contributors to societal development.
She noted that after assessing the environmental challenges in Kundulum, including land degradation and limited access to water, FOYAE sought to provide support in partnership with UNDP and allied programs.
Mrs Alabura said, that as part of their efforts, the organization has brought together community leaders to understand the goals of the project and how it will be implemented, saying this is to ensure their full involvement and ownership.
She also announced the inauguration a committee of 20-members that will oversee and monitor the project’s execution in Kundulum.
One of the participants, Sani Usman, the traditional leader of farmers in Kundulum (Sarkin Noman Kundulum), expressed gratitude to FOYAE and UNDP for selecting the community for the support, he also urged all the community members to support and monitor the success of the project,
The sensitization program marks the beginning of a broader intervention aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and improving community well-being in the area.
