The Gombe State Government has announced the death of its Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd), who died in a fatal motor accident along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road on Friday.
The retired military officer reportedly lost his life alongside his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, while returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where they had attended the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) framework.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, expressed deep grief over the incident, describing the late commissioner as a disciplined officer and dedicated public servant who brought his wealth of experience and patriotism to the service of Gombe State.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and deep sense of responsibility. His demise is a monumental loss not only to his family and our government, but to Gombe State and Nigeria at large,” the Governor said.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also praised the late Commissioner’s contributions to the State Executive Council, noting his leadership role in strengthening internal security, promoting inter-agency collaboration, and fostering community safety across the state.
The Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, extended condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and the Balanga Local Government community, praying Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannat Firdaus.
He equally sympathized with the family of the late police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, describing both men as patriots who died in active service to the state and the nation. The Governor also prayed for the speedy recovery of the Commissioner’s driver, who sustained injuries in the crash and is currently receiving treatment.
The government said the time for the funeral prayer would be announced in due course.
