Gombe state Government says it’s working with UNICEF to eradicate malnutrition

Gombe state Government says it’s working with development partners such as UNICEF and other partners to eradicate malnutrition in the state.

The state’s deputy governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau discloced this on Tuesday while delivering a keynote at the launch of the Gombe state food and nutrition policy and multisectoral plan of action 2023-2027 supported by UNICEF.

Manassah Danial stated that giant infrastructural strides are being pursue alongside human capital projects that are meant for the welfare of the residents in Gombe State.

Promptly releases counterpart funding for the procurement of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food for the treatment of severe acute malnutrition, Production of a complementary feed for the management of moderately malnourished children across the 11 LGAS, establishment of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) in 6 LGAs of the state, Facility Infant and Young Child Feeding (F-IYCF) that are ongoing in the 11 LGAS among others.

He said, ‘’Lovers of Gombe, today’s launching of the Gombe State Food and Nutrition Policy and Multisectoral Plan of Action 2023-2027 which came up after a very careful scrutiny and discussion and subsequent approval by the State EXCO is yet another determination to ensure that Gombe key into the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and also the national policy of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of the present administration, of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.’’

In a remark, Dr. Tushar Rane, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office said the Food and Nutrition Policy launched will guide Gombe State to address the hinderances to food and nutrition security from individual, household, community, local government to state levels.

Represented by Philomena Irene, Nutrition Specialist UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr. Tushar Rane said ‘’The Costed Multisectoral Strategic Plan will promote diets, services and practices that support optimal nutrition, growth and development for all children, adolescents, and women. Furthermore, it is noteworthy and commendable that Gombe state contributed 50 million Naira as counterpart contribution for the Child Nutrition Fund to address all forms of Malnutrition particularly Wasting, Anaemia and Stunting.’’

”We congratulate the Gombe State Government for charting a pathway to address nutrition problems by domesticating and formally launching the Gombe State Nutrition Policy and Development of Costed Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for the state’s treasure – its children.’’
