ICPC to Prosecute ‘Journalist’, Alkazim Kabir over Alleged 14M Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to prosecute one Mr. Alkazim Kabir, also known as ‘Abbati Kabiru Abuwa’, a self-acclaimed journalist from Kano, over alleged involvement in multiple fraudulent activities amounting to about ₦14 million.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Mr. Demola Bakare, the Commission said the decision followed several petitions accusing Mr. Kabir of fraud, impersonation, and false representation.

According to ICPC investigations, the suspect allegedly impersonated top government officials, including aides to the President and Vice President, as well as members of the National Assembly, to defraud unsuspecting victims.

In one case, he reportedly collected over $3,000 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals from two individuals, pretending to be a Presidential aide.

The Commission further disclosed that Mr. Kabir often used religious trips such as pilgrimages to carry out his fraudulent acts, borrowing large sums and sending fake bank receipts as proof of repayment.

The ICPC spokesperson added that charges have already been filed and the suspect will be arraigned before a competent court of law once the case is assigned.
