Jigawa increases funding for free basic healthcare scheme

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved increased funding for its free basic healthcare initiative, J-Basic, which targets vulnerable and other residents across the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, disclosed this to newsmen after the council meeting on Tuesday in Dutse.

He said the monthly capitation for enrolees in both the Formal Sector (217,134 people) and J-Basic Healthcare Programme (143,500 people) had been raised from N300 to N500 per person.

“Following the successful implementation of J-Basic Healthcare Services for vulnerable citizens, this funding boost will strengthen the administration’s efforts,” Musa said.

He added that the initiative was designed to provide free and accessible healthcare to the poorest and most vulnerable, in line with global best practices for health insurance.

Musa also noted that the J-Basic programme had been rated as the best in Nigeria so far, and the government remained committed to sustaining and improving it
