Taraba Government Denies Nominating New Deputy Governor

The Taraba State government has described as misleading the claim by unspecified persons that it has nominated the incumbent deputy speaker of the state Assembly, Hamman-Adama Adamu, as the new deputy governor of the state.

In a press briefing by the state commissioner for information, Zainab Jalingo, the state government insisted that there is no vacancy in the office of the deputy governor and that the current deputy governor, Aminu Alkali, remains the duly elected deputy governor of Taraba State.

The government urged the public to remain calm and to rely on verified information from official government communication channels.

“The attention of the Taraba State Government has been drawn to rumour making the rounds on social and traditional media suggesting that His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, has nominated Alhaji Hamman Adama as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

“This claim is entirely false, misleading, wicked and should be disregarded by the public in its entirety.

“We wish to categorically state that there is no vacancy in the office of the Deputy Governor. The current Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, remains the duly elected Deputy Governor of Taraba State.”

According to the government, the process of replacing a Deputy Governor, as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution, is clear, due legislative and constitutional procedures is required and such process has not been initiated or contemplated at this time.

The government said it remains focused on delivering good governance and will not be distracted by unfounded speculations.
