AFAN Applauds Northern Governors Forum on N1B Monthly Security Trust Fund
The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has commended the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) for establishing the Northern Security Trust Fund and inaugurating its management board to address insecurity in the region.
In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Muhammad Magaji Gettado, AFAN described the initiative as a decisive and visionary step towards restoring peace and improving the conditions for agricultural activities across Northern Nigeria.
The association particularly praised the composition of the fund’s management board, saying the appointment of individuals with proven integrity and credible track records would promote transparency, accountability, and effective utilisation of the resources.
AFAN also lauded the NGF’s commitment to contribute ₦1 billion monthly to the security trust fund, describing the financial pledge as a strong demonstration of the governors’ determination to combat insecurity and protect the lives and livelihoods of citizens.
According to the association, improved security in farming communities would create a safer environment for agricultural activities, increase crop production, stabilise food prices, and strengthen national food security.
AFAN therefore called on all its regional chapters, cooperative unions, and individual farmers across Northern Nigeria to support the initiative by cooperating with the governors, the newly inaugurated board, and local security agencies.
The association urged farmers to remain vigilant and provide actionable information that could assist in the successful implementation of the security initiative.
AFAN reiterated its commitment to working with government and relevant stakeholders to achieve self-sufficiency in food production within a secure and peaceful environment.
