Gona Emirate Council Condemns Kundulum Protest, Backs Government Development Project
The Gona Emirate Council has condemned the recent protest in Kundulum District over the proposed acquisition of land by the Gombe State Government for a development project, describing the action as capable of undermining the collective aspirations of the people.
In a statement signed by Safiyanu Danladi Mairiga (Sadaukin Gona), the Council dissociated itself from the protest and reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in the area.
The Council said it had maintained an unwavering commitment to peace, progress, and constructive engagement with government at all levels, adding that development often requires sacrifices for the greater good.
According to the statement, the Gombe State Government had demonstrated good faith by expressing willingness to pay adequate compensation to affected landowners in accordance with established laws and procedures.
The Council therefore described the resort to protest by some individuals as unnecessary and regrettable, urging aggrieved persons to embrace dialogue and engagement rather than actions that could create tension or hinder the implementation of development projects.
It called on residents of Kundulum District and the wider Gona Emirate to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading misinformation that could obstruct projects designed to improve living standards.
The Council also commended Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his administration’s commitment to the development of Gona Emirate and Akko Local Government Area, citing interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, rural development, and road construction.
It noted that Kundulum District had benefited from several government projects, including access roads, erosion control works, and the Northern By-pass dual carriageway, which is expected to connect the district with key economic hubs such as the Agro-Processing Development Zone and the Dankwambo Motor Park.
The Council reaffirmed its support for all genuine development initiatives of the Gombe State Government and urged residents to cooperate fully with the authorities to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed project.
It also encouraged all affected persons to channel their concerns through peaceful and legitimate means while taking advantage of the government’s commitment to fair and adequate compensation.
The statement added that the future prosperity of communities within the Emirate depended on unity, understanding, and collective readiness to embrace positive change.
